THE ELECTRICITY GENERATED FROM OKPAI PHASE 1 IPP STATION SUPPLIES ANAMBRA, ENUGU, AND ABUJA WHILE DELTA NORTH SUFFERS

Governor Sheriff Orohwedo Oborevwori, it's time to take action! The people of Delta North are suffering while the electricity generated from the Okpai IPP station is being supplied to other states. I urge you to restore the phase 2 IPP projects and other abandoned projects across the State. The lack of patriotic leadership in Delta State is evident in the deplorable state of electricity supply in Delta North.

The Okpai IPP project, commissioned in 2005 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been a subject of irony for the people of Delta North. While the electricity generated from the plant supplies Anambra, Enugu, and Abuja, the host communities in Delta North struggle to access reliable power. The first phase of the project was supervised by the then Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan from Delta South. However, his successor, who is from Delta North, failed to complete the second phase when he took over office in 2015.

This situation highlights the lack of patriotic leadership in Delta State. Effective leadership is rooted in patriotism, a vital ingredient that drives development from the grassroots level.

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is a shining example of true patriotism and dedication in his leadership representation since assuming office in 2023. His efforts as the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District showcase true patriotic leadership, particularly in his push for the abandoned IPP phase 2 projects and Ogwashi-ukwu dam.

The people of Delta North deserve better. Despite being blessed with oil and gas, the state lacks the patriotic political will to harness its potential and revamp its abandoned independent power plants to boost electricity supply. The state's leadership has changed hands, with different geopolitical zones having the opportunity to develop the state, but the results are disappointing.

The deplorable state of electricity supply in Delta North Senatorial District and the state capital, Asaba, is a direct result of lack of patriotism.

It's time for our leaders to prioritize patriotism and development over personal interests. The Delta State government should take ownership of its electricity supply and not depend on Benin Disco, which seems more interested in profiting from the people's misery.

The people of Delta North and Delta State in general deserve reliable electricity, and it's time for the government to prioritize their welfare. True patriotism doesn't need years to make a difference, and with the right leadership, Delta State can achieve its full potential.
