Why FG suspend school feeding programme in some states The Special Adviser to the President on Social Investments, Mrs Maryam Uwais, has explained why the Homegrown School Feeding Programme of the Federal Government was suspended in some states. There had been reports of poor quality food, insufficient and irregular supply of food, as well as late disbursement of funds by the government in states, such as Akwa Ibom and Niger. But reacting to the development, in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Uwais said the Federal Government had started conducting a headcount of pupils being fed under the programme. Nigeria to fight Ebola again Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has intensified preparedness for infectious diseases. The World Health Organisation (WHO) disclosed that more than 2,000 cases of the epidemic had been recorded in DRC since last August when the Central Africa nation declared a 10th outbreak in North Kivu province with an overall death toll of 1,405. The NCDC said Nigeria was better prepared to contain any possible epidemic, as it had continuously developed capacity for response in this regard. Nigerian Army commanding officer dies in Boko Haram attack A Nigerian Army lieutenant colonel has been feared killed in action after Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military formation in Borno State on Wednesday. The 158 Task Force Battalion in Mobba Local Government Area came under attack by the rampaging terrorists as the country was celebrating its new Democracy Day on June 12, military sources said. Several casualties, including human and equipment, were reportedly inflicted on the military during the fire fight. A lieutenant colonel, who has been leading the battalion as its commanding officer was pronounced killed. The Army Headquarters in Abuja was said to have been alerted to the development, and an emergency team of rescuer had been deployed to manage the aftermath. Obule appeals to FG to grant Tompolo total pardon As a way to mark the historical June, 12 political anniversary in a more significant manner, the Federal Government has been called upon to grant the ex-militant leader High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo total pardon. Making this appeal in chat with newsmen in Warri, the Delta State Coordinator of New Nigerian Democratic Evolution (NNDE), Comrade Francis Obule said that Nigerians will commend the Federal Government of Nigeria if it grants Tompolo and others total pardon and have them integrated into the Nigerian society.
