KADUNA — Residents of Dan Hono II in Kaduna Millennium City staged a protest on Monday, blocking the busy Yar’adua Road to demand urgent action following a resurgence of kidnappings in the community.
Men, women, and youths gathered in large numbers, carrying placards and chanting slogans, expressing frustration over the growing insecurity and calling on security agencies to intervene.
According to reports, a group of armed individuals reportedly kidnapped a woman, her children, and the proprietor of a private school in a midnight raid. Residents said this marks the 11th abduction in the community over the past two years.
“This is becoming unbearable. We can no longer sleep peacefully. The government and security agencies must act before the situation worsens,” one protester said.
The demonstrators warned that the rising insecurity is prompting some families to consider relocating, while local business owners fear the trend could disrupt economic activities in the neighbourhood.
Three weeks ago, a former cameraman with African Independent Television (AIT) was also abducted from his residence in the same area, further heightening fears among residents.
At the time of reporting, efforts to obtain official confirmation from security authorities were ongoing, while residents called for increased patrols and rapid response measures to prevent further attacks.
