Flood submerges 10,000 Delta households, council chairman laments

The Council Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, Juan Governor, has disclosed that a total of 10,611 households across impacted communities in the locality were displaced by the current ravaging flood.

The chairman, who disclosed this in his regular flood impact summary on Wednesday, said all the farmlands in the locality were devastated beyond remedy.

He said roads and other critical infrastructures, including the council secretariat in Aboh, were also submerged, as earlier reported.

Mr. Governor disclosed that the council so far received N1,500,000.00 donations which were lodged in the council’s account and earmarked for post-flood management plans.

According to him, most times during the post-flood phase “many structures and properties may be needlessly lost and damaged through hasty clean-up procedures.

“On the basis of this, the council is commencing wide awareness and sensitisation programme to let our people know that the best way to help our communities, property, or structure prevent additional damage and maintain its integrity and character during these times of duress is with the use of proper caution and concern.

“While the water is receding, we encourage our people to plan the future steps to rehabilitation and restoration carefully. Each decision made today affects future decisions which will need to be made tomorrow,” he said.

The council boss further stated that with the flood, residents would face some new degree of challenges, and therefore solicited assistance in areas where the council lacked capacity to manage.

He called for quick fix of Ashaka-Kwale, Ashaka-Arhade, Ashaka-Aboh, Ase, Asaba Ase, Aboh-Akarai roads and the roads in the seven Ibrede Clans, Iselegu-Inyi/Onuabor road, Oko through the several Utchi clans down to Okpai roads, Obiikwele road, Igbuku-Ibrede road among others.

Woman Burned to Death, Accused of Kidnapping 7yrs Old Boy in Delta

By Tessy ogbemi An angry mob set ablaze a woman accused in a failed child kidnapping attempt in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.  The incident happened on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.  An eyewitness disclosed at the scene of the incident at Ekwvere Road claimed that the woman hid the seven year old boy she allegedly abducted in a sack, adding that she was even carrying a Bible on one hand.  Community sources said some residents in the area accosted the lady when they observed the way she was dragging the sack, to know what she had in it.  "She was unstable when they asked her to disclose what she was carrying in the sack.
