Nnamani: FBI never obtained $41.8m judgement against me

The Senator for Enugu East, Chimaroke Nnamani, has debunked a report that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States obtained a $41.8 million judgement against him.

Nnamani made the clarification in a Tuesday statement.

According to him, the report is “campaign of calumny” and “fake news” targeted at him for holding alternative views on recent political developments in Nigeria.

Nnamani allegedly siphoned and laundered $41.8 million during his days as Enugu State governor and used the ill-gotten riches to acquire luxury assets in Florida.

The online newspaper said it obtained documents relating to forfeiture proceedings instituted against Nnamani in a US court.

The report said that the former Enugu governor declined to comment on the story when approached to do so.

However, in his statement, the ex-governor said, “Campaign of calumny, intimidation, insults and abuse orchestrated to suppress and diminish my voice. However, my voice will grow louder and more persistent.

“I know my recent position will attract this attack by those who cannot tolerate alternative views. Democracy allows alternative view points. If I cannot express my opinion and take a stand, who will?

“There was no such judgement anywhere . The author of the fake news, Samuel Ogundipe, is a known blackmailer.

“The story of Samuel Ogundipe with Air Peace airlines is still fresh in our memories.

“I’m not surprised that Ogundipe has offered himself as a willing tool for this hatchet job once again,” Nnamani said.
