Committee for the Defence of Human Rights Gets New Chairman in Delta,
Israel, Harrison Emerges as Secretary, Treasurer 



 The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (Cdhr.) Delta State branch, has electd it's officers on the 22nd May, 2021 to run the affairs of the State branch for the next two years in accordance with the provision of the  constitution of the organization. 

In a press statement made available to FocalPoint Reports disclosed that the eelection was conducted by Comrade (Barr.) Godwin Umuko who doubles as the chairman of the Transition Committee (TC), set up by the National Executive Committee (NEC) through the National President of the Organization who was a two time Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State, senior Comrade Osagie Obayuwana to address issues of misunderstanding and distrust that errupted in the State branch in late 2019 and early 2020. 

The election was monitored by the National Publicity Secretary of the Organization, a legal luminary, Comrade (Barr.) Henry Ekine, who represented the National President at the event. 

The election was free and fair and held under an atmosphere of peace and conviviality and same took place at the Famous and prestigeous Idama Hotels Limited,  Warri in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

 There were three positions  to be contested for at the State level in the election which are the office of the chairman, secretary and treasurer. At the end of the election, the following persons: Comrade (Chief) Edariese Amrevuawho Peter of Oviri-Olomu Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State of Nigeria emerged as chairman and Comrades Israel Joe and Harrison Itulua from Edo State emerged as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. 

The Transition Committee chairman, Comrade (Barr.) Godwin Umuko who doubles as the chief electoral officer, in his pre-election speech, enjoined all members of the organization in the State branch present to regard each other as  brother's and sisters as doing otherwise would breed hatred and crisis. In his pre election remarks, the representative of the National President, 


 comrade (Barr.) Henry Ekine, reminded every one present that there is a serious need for all to cultivate the spirit of love and tolerance which is the only panacea that can engender peace and unity among us. He posited that there is no faction in the Delta State  CDHR family and that anybody who is nursing animosity against his fellow comrades is digging a grave for him or herself and such a person should consider him/herself as an enemy of progress.


 He said that though, there was some misunderstandings in the past which swept across the country, that nobody should still be carrying that in their minds after the elections that will produce candidates of the choice of the majority of all of us present.


 He enjoined us to forgive whoever offended us as a result of the past misunderstanding as we also expect others to forgive us in our short comings to put Satan to shame. He went further to tell us that everybody in CDHR are under one roof, the National Secretariat, located at No. 43, Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeha Lagos; under one Board of Trustees led by comrade (Barr.) Femi Falana (SAN); one National President who is Comrade (Barr.) Osagie Obayuwana and expectedly, under one State chairman, who will emerge expectedly from the election we are about to hold.


 He further to predict that the problems engendered by the previous misunderstanding shall all be put behind us through the result of the election we are about to hold.He advise us to queue up behind the  comrade (Chief) Edariese's leadership as much surprise in positive developments awaits them.In his acceptance speech, comrade (Chief) Edariese A.P., speaking for himself and on behalf of his co-elected officers referred to above, thanked the Transition/electoral committee for a good job and a job well done, the visitor, Comrade (Barr.) Henry Ekine, for his sacrifice, and all Cdhr members gathered for their show of love and solidarity which culminated their eventual emergence. He  promised to take Cdhr to a greater height with a further promise to turn everything around for good both at the State and National levels.He advised all and sundry to make haste to make peace with those who  look at us as enemies to Foster the spirit of injury to one, injury to all. He pleaded with us, the new executives, to run an open door government in the state branch's administration which is capable of addressing any remnant of the past misunderstanding to enable us achieve the common objective that drove our founding fathers to establish the organization which is injury to one, injury to all. 

the chairman made it clear to all gathered that no stone would be left unturned in his efforts to inject new vigour and direction into the organization at the branch levels in order to drive the project of making Cdhr's impact be felt every where in the state branch. 

He promisef to educate every citizens whether born in the state or  resident herein to have the awareness of what human rights is all about and be able to fight any abuse done to him or her or any person he may come accross to restore peace and order in the society we find ourselves at whatever cost it may be. Long live CDHR! Long live Delta State!! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
