By Ezekiel Kagbala
UGHELLI__All eyes on Judiciary as Deltans awaits hearing of election petition filled by the Delta State Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP), Chief Kenneth Gbagi.
A political pressure group, Social Movement for Good Governance in a statement issued by its founder and made available to newsmen in Ughelli and national coordinator, Prince Temienor Oghenekevwe stated that the Judiciary is the hope of the common man as well as the political elite, adding that Deltans are watchful that their hope is not be sold.
The group urges the judiciary to revive the trust reposed on them as the hope of the ordinary man, stressing that Gbagi is the hope to liberate Delta State from misrule.
They noted that their fear is hinged on the fact that number of conflicting judgments issued on similar matters by courts of coordinate jurisdiction is alarming.
"There is also fear that Some judges are either yielding to corrupt politicians or shying away from responsibilities and in that guise issue contentious judgments".
"It is believed that only an overly courageous judge can muster the audacity to acknowledge an irregularity and annul an election where the ruling party won. This perceived fear of intimidation and accompanying backlash, as well as the fear of violence outbreak, are palpable trepidations for most judges today".
