Police Tells CSO's to Cancel Planned Anti-Fuel, Electricity Tariff Hike In Delta...
The Nigerian Police of Delta State Command, yesterday held a meeting with civil society, groups urging them to cancel the planned anti-fuel and electricity tariff hike protest for security reasons.
The meeting was held at the Warri Area command between the Commander, ACP Abubaka Agungu and representatives of the organization led by Comrade Israel Joe of the Committee for the Defence of Human Right, CDHR.
During the meeting, all the divisional police officers who were part of the meeting disclosed that there are security challenges in their divisions and intelligence Reports at their disposal revealed that hoodlums may take advantage of the protest for criminal activities.
However, Israel Joe who spoke on behalf of the groups assured the police that everything would be done to ensure a peaceful and secure protest in Delta State.
Others who spoke noted that the protest was meant to send a message to the federal government regarding the sufferings been experienced by Nigerians.
FocalPoint Reports that September 28, was the planned date for the CSO's to embark on the protest if the federal government fails to reverse the recent hike in the price of petrol and electricity tariffs.
