Land Ownership: Ogulagha Leaders Petition Okowa Over Imminent Communal Crisis


The leaders of Ogulagha kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, have called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently caution the people of Oborotu in Iduwini clan, as their false claims on Ogulagha lands was capable of causing communal crisis in the area.

The call for Governor Okowa’s intervention was contained in a petition to the Governor, by the leaders of Ogulagha kingdom,, dated 15th September, which was made available to newsmen yesterday in Warri, Delta State.

It will be recalled that Chief T.M Binebai and Past. Bebe. I. Joseph, both from Oborotu of Iduwini Kingdom had in press statement claimed ownership of Ogulagha lands and reffered to Ogulagha people as tenants.

But, the leaders of Ogulagha kingdom accused the people of Oborotu of Iduwini extraction of laying false claim to lands exclusively belonging to Ogulagha kingdom, adding that people Oborotu were raising frivolous issues and looking for avenue to cause a breakdown of law and Order in the state.

The petition signed by Chief William Igere, Chief Emmanuel Potoki, Chief MacDonald Anoruse, Chief Larry Adanike and 8 other leaders of Ogulagha Kingdom, they warned that ” it was wrong and an act of irresponsibilty for Oborotu people to have reffered to Ogulagha people as tenants in their own lands, as such an insulting, dehumanizing, defamatory and scandalous statements have lowered the public esteem of Ogulagha people and our revered King who is a recognized and gazette Traditional Ruler in Nigeria”.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
