DELTA 2023: There is no zoning system in Delta------Ijaw Group

By Bright Okeni

The Delta Ijaw Grassroot Political Movement, DIGPM, has restated that it is the turn of the Ijaws to produce the state governor come 2023 as there is no power rotation system in the state from the inception of the current political dispensation.

The DIGPM in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, Tuesday and signed by the Hon. Mala Oliver and Pastor Hossana Fetimi, Co-ordinator and spokesperson for the group, they argued that “there is nowhere leaders sat and decided on zoning in the state” and tasked the state PDP Chairman, Barr. Kingsley Esiso who made the claim to produce such document and make it public.

Chief Esiso had earlier stated that the governorship is the right of the Urhobo nation come 2023 and it is “sacrosanct” because by the rotational principle in Delta, it is the turn of Delta Central to produce the Governor.

The DIGPM described Esiso's statement as “capable of throwing the state into a political quagmire and heating up the polity unnecessarily”, saying that they are not aware of the existence of such document and such comment should not have emanated from Barr. Esiso as the state party chairman, umpire of the party affairs and an Urhoboman for that matter.

According to DIGPM, his statement has exposed him as bias in his judgment and has lost the respect and confidence of party members in the state who sees the party as a family, adding that “Urhobo Governor 2023 being sacrosanct is unacceptable and does conform with the political system in the state’, they emphasized.

The Delta Ijaw Grassroot Political Movement therefore call on the state PDP Chairman to resign honourably to avoid the disaster and calamity he might cause for the party in the state noting that Olorogun Felix Ibru and Chief James Ibori both of Urhobo extraction has ruled the state at various time since creation and no Ijaw man has in spite of being a major oil and gas producer and one of the major sources of revenue for the state that ought to be considered for the Governorship seat after these years.
