Lawyers groan, Walks Out of Court as Government Hits Hotels, Filing Station, Hospitals, Companies With Court Suit in Delta

Some Lawyers in Warri Delta State, on Thursday, resorted to a showing of anger in a mobile court following a proceeding of summary trials of Business firms in the State.

This came as the  Delta State Waste Management Board drags Hospitals, Clinics, Petrol stations, Hotel and other companies to a Mobile court sitting in Warri.

The court proceeded with the summary trial of the firms in the face of complaints by some lawyers who frowned over what they described as court procedural deficiency.

Some lawyers and business owners said if the State Government and the court are not on a revenue drive, they will not adopt a posture that suggests strangulation of business and companies who struggles to stay operational in a troubled economy.

The Manager of  Hensmor filling station, Okor Alexander who spoke to our reporter said that "Delta state government has failed, they need to go to the drawing board and get it right".

A lawyer who pleaded for anonymity said the State Government is using the court for desperate revenue drive.

However, members of the State Waste Management Board insisted that they dragged the firms to the court for failure to comply with contravention/ enforcement notice to stop the disposal of waste liquid, toxic and industrial waste into the environment. They also alleged that the Firms had no sanitary waste bin with tight-fitting Cover and amongst others.

The lawyers expressed displeasure over the procedures of the court, angry that some firms were dragged to court despite not been duly served.
