Crisis Loom As Workers set to Shutdown OML 42, Gives 7-Days Ultimatum
Surveillance and maintenance workers under OML 42 at the Egwa 11 Flow Station in Delta State has threatened to shut down the operations of the Access Management Team/NPDC indefinitely over alleged non-payment of accumulated salaries.
The workers under the aegis of National Association of Pipeline Surveillance Maintenance Workers of Nigeria (NAPSMWN) in a letter addressed to the General Manager of the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and signed by the National President Mr. William Guwakumor and National Secretary, Mr. Livingstone Ofowino issued a seven (7) days ultimatum within which their plight should be addressed or they take all necessary steps to shut down the company’s operation.
The workers had earlier met with the operators of the OML 42 with the Commander 3 Battalion Nigerian Army and representatives of the State Government over the issue where it the matter was resolved only for the Access Management Team/NPDC to renege on the agreement.
The workers therefore stated that “unless your authority addresses our plight within seven (7) days ultimatum of grace, we may have no option than to shut down operations indefinitely”, they emphasized saying that they can no longer continue to tolerate the degree of hardship and hunger being meted on them by the company.
The letter copied to the Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa was also addressed to all relevant security agencies including the Superintendent, Egwa 11 Flow Station respectively.
