2023: Gbagi, SDP Embarks On Issue-Based Campaign in Delta


Delta State, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi has taken an issue-based campaign to Sapele, Delta State.

The industrialist addressed issues affecting the state during a meeting with clergymen on Wednesday 28, December 2022 at the Diocese of Sapele, Anglican Communion, Christ Church Pro-Cathedral, in Okpe Road, Sapele.
Addressing key issues affecting the well-being of Deltans, the former minister of State for Education, said that, as soon as he is sworn in as governor, he would commence the implementation of its anti-open grazing law and ('Nama, Nama") Cattles will not come into any street around Delta State. 
Some pertinent issues addressed include; Herders-farmers clash, the creation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Security, Health Care, Job creation; Wooing investors to the State, Pensioners' Salaries and a lot more. Gbagi assured the people that he would address these challenges.


Earlier, the Bishop of Anglican Church, Sapele diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Blessing Erifeta said, "We believe that when the economy is bad, the church will suffer setbacks, hence, the church cannot celebrate failure, the truth must be told, Any government that does not take the security of lives seriously will not enjoy any support from the church.
The SDP candidate responded to questions from Rev Canon, Oreva Andrew Okpegbehe, Rev Sunday Erifeta, and a host of other clergymen 

Gbagi promised to revamp Delta State's health sector and establish specialist medical centres in every senatorial district of the state.

Rev Sunday Erifeta also stressed on Payment of retirees, stating that it is a burning issue as the majority of them had died without  Pay.
 
Gbagi, in his response, alleged that the pension money may have been stolen, and this money was contributed by retirees when they were in active service, It is a social contract that pensioners' money is not meant to be touched or spent by the government.
He insisted that "The People's money has been stolen, God will hold people accountable for not speaking up when there is a misdeed by Government officials who misused pensioners' money".

The criminologist rounded up the meeting by addressing the issue of Local Government Autonomy, adding that, all council meetings will be moved to local government every week. 


Those who accompanied Ggbagi include Gbagi's campaign council led by Prof. Jiff Mokobia, Director General, Prof Augustus Atubi, deputy director general South-south Vice Chairman of SDP, Elder Fred Owotorofa, the Delta Central Senatorial District chairman and Delta Central Coordinator, Gbagi Campaign Council, Comrade Mike Dugbo and hosts of supporters.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Chairman of the retirees, Christopher Effiong said many of their members have developed terminal illnesses and heart attacks as a result of the frustration associated with the scheme. In a letter dated May 21 and addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the retirees said many of their colleagues have lost their lives due to the prevai
