The daughter, Mrs Alice Jete, the complaint commended the Nigerian police for arresting some  persons involved in the assault of her aged mother but noted that the main person is still on the run.

Recall that the incident happened on the 19th of March 2021 at Otor-Iyede, Isoko North LGA, Delta State.  FocalPoint reported how 98 years old Mrs Margaret Okpole  was falsely accused, severely beaten with logs and dragged on the ground into a room to be burnt to death. Mrs Margret Okpole was beaten by a relative named Wada Okpole in the company of other members of his gang; Sunday Pada, Jerry Okpole, Emonana Okpole, Egbe Aluya, Oghenemaro,  and others, all from Isoko, Otor-Iyede.

The matter was reported, at the Otor-Oweh Police Station on the 20th, March 2021 but some community leaders protected those youths from being arrested as they promised to consult their local Oracle which letter confirmed that the accused 98 years old woman was innocent.

Human Rights group, CHRPC on Friday visited the Ozoro area command, expressed satisfaction and commended the area commander for charging the suspects to court.

The arrest of some suspects and eventual trial in court will serve as a deterrent to victimisation of  innocent elderly in a society where the extremely poor are often singled out as witches rather than being cared for.
