Ijaw Group Begs Mulade Sheriff To Remain In PDP,  We Need You to Achieve Ijaw Governorship 2023.......Ozobo Austin

The Ijaw People's Development Initiative, IPDI, has beged Chief Mulade Sheriff to return and remain in PDP to enable Delta Ijaws achieve her dreams come 2023 and called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to consider the peace, environmental and human rights advocate, Chief (Comrade) Mulade Sheriff for a political appointment to enable him contribute more to the development of the State.

The IPDI which made the call in Warri on Sunday 18th July, 2021, through its president,  Comrade Ozobo Austin who noted that Chief Mulade Sheriff has done a lot by promoting education, sports and peacebuilding in Delta State and the Niger Delta Region at large, and therefore, deserves to be appreciated by the Delta State Government led by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

According to the Ijaw group, although political favouritism and eye service have taken the place of meritocracy in the hearts of the ruling class, the exceptionality of Chief Sheriff Mulade is opening doors for him outside his community, making Delta State and the Niger Delta Region proud.

The IPDI noted that in 2019, Mulade Sheriff, through his NGO, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, donated an executive and luxury 200 horse power speed boat to the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State.

The group emphasized that Chief (Comrade) Mulade has consistently organized and sponsored the popular Peace and Unity Quiz/Essay Competitions for secondary school students in the riverine communities of Delta State, in addition to the popular Ijaw/Itsekiri Peace and Unity Football Cup Competition, also known as Comrade Mulade Sheriff Peace and Unity Cup, where he presented N2.2 million cash awards and consolation prizes to the contestants every two years to promote and sustain peaceful coexistence between Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities.

The Ijaw advocacy group stated that Chief Mulade Sheriff, the Ibe-Seremowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, recently influenced and donated an accomodation as South-South zonal office in Delta State for the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) Abuja, a Federal Government's Agency, in addition to other positive contributions by him to complement the efforts of the Federal and State Government for the promotion of Peace.

The IPDI asserted that in the light of the above, the exclusion of Chief Sheriff Mulade from the governance of Delta State for mere political reasons, would be a demerit to the Okowa Adminstration even after 2023, which may set a bad precedence that mediocrity is rewarded above meritocracy in Delta State.

According to Comrade Ozobo Austin, Chief (Comrade) Mulade had also distinguished himself through his philanthropic gestures to Deltans without holding a Government Office, and therefore, deserves to be recognized by giving him a political appointment.

The Ijaw People's Development Initiative, IPDI, advocated further that the State Governor should consider Sheriff Mulade for a political appointment so as to strengthen the chances of the ruling party in Delta State politics, come 2023. The group said Comrade Mulade Sheriff would make remarkable and positive impacts if given a key public position where he can use his skills in, and knowledge of how to preserve and sustain the environment to make Delta State a good environment for everyone.
