Three Killed As Terrorists, Military Clash In Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed three terrorists during a fighting patrol operation in Zamfara State.

The troops also recovered arms and ammunition from terrorists during the operation carried out in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, May 7, by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, the operation was conducted on May 7 as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement in Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.

Danja said the troops came in contact with armed terrorists at Doumbourum Village, where they engaged them in a gun battle.

The statement said, “A fierce firefight ensued,” adding that the troops overpowered the attackers with superior firepower.

According to the task force, three terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled the area with gunshot wounds.

The statement added that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.

Following the encounter, the troops recovered several weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.

The recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines and 571 rounds of ammunition.

The task force said the recovery would further weaken the operational capacity of terrorist groups in the affected areas.

It added that the operation formed part of sustained military pressure against terrorists and other criminal elements in Zamfara State.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA described the operation as another success in the ongoing campaign against terrorism and criminal activities in the North-West.

The task force said the conduct of the troops reflected “their unwavering commitment, resilience, and professionalism.”

It assured residents that troops would continue to carry out operations aimed at restoring peace and security to troubled communities in the region.

The task force also called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

It said useful intelligence from residents remained important in tracking terrorists, preventing attacks and sustaining ongoing operations.

The military further urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while assuring them that security forces would continue to protect lives and property across the region.

Breaking: ASUU suspends 2-week warning strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its two-week warning strike it declared last week across all public universities in the country. The union announced the suspension on Wednesday at a press conference held at its headquarters in Abuja.
