Angry Mob burns Police Vehicle as Vigilante Kills Commercial Motorcycle Operator in Delta
An angry mob has set police vehicle ablaze over the alleged killing of a commercial motorcycle operator at the Delta Still Company permanent camp in the Udu local government area of Delta State.
In a statement made available to FocalPoint Reports by the Chairman, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (Cdhr) Delta State Chapter, Comrade (Chief) Edariese A. Peter, disclosed that the human rights organization has informed that relevant police authorities over the killing.
In his statement, he said that "The above is an incident that took place this morning in a Police road block by DSC permanent camp gate where the Police and Vigilante group usually mounts their road blocks every morning and evening"
"The incident was as a result of the failure and/ or refusal of the rider to pay the usual One Hundred Naira 'marching' to the police as a daily tax to poor road users in the state. In the process, the Police patrol vehicle was burnt down by angry Nigerians who witnessed the dastard killing of the Nigerian"
"Please take note and take steps as appropriate. Comrade (Chief) Edariese A.Peter, Chairman, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (Cdhr) Delta State Chapter".
The Delta State police public relations officer PPRO, DSP Edafe Bright confirmed that the vigilante is in custody after he was almost killed by the mob. He also added that the police did not kill the said victim.
