URGE GOVERNMENT TO WORK WITH CEPEJ FOR HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT

As the world marks environmental day with the theme 'Beat Air Pollution', the National coordinator, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, Comrade Sheriff Mulade has advised the government to curtail air pollution by partnering with CEPEJ and adopting stringent measures to eradicate air pollution.

Comrade Mulade who made this call during a tour of government institutions, motor parks, schools in Warri Delta state and environs on Monday, noted that there is a need for government to educate the people to adopt healthy environment.

During the sensitisation visit to Uvwie local government area with his environmental team, CEPEJ, Mulade accompanied by the counselor, Hon. James Emanereame who represented the Local government Chairman Hon. Ransom Onoyake decried unhealthy polluted environment in most of the places visited.

At Ijakpa primary School, CEPEJ observed that the environment was not healthy for pupils to learn as huge dump site surrounding the school  emitting offensive odor has polluted the environment making it unhealthy for pupils to learn and those residing in the environment.

The team of CEPEJ also visited the proposed permanent site of Ijakpa primary school accompanied by the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Margret Omafuaire, said that the school has been under construction since 2010. CEPEJ urged the government to expedite action by completing the school before 2019 so that the pupils can move in to learn under decent environment.











On a visit to PTI Junction/ Agbor Park, CEPEJ noted that the environment was littered with heaps refuse and donated waste bin baskets to keep the environment clean.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention.
