The youths of Egbema kingdom, Warri North Local Government Local Area of Delta State, have pleaded with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to appoint an Egbema person as next Chairman or Commissioner to represent Ijaw ethnic nationality on the next board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Council (DESOPADEC).
President of Egbema Youth Council (EYC), Mr. Bright Maya in a statement yesterday, said ” since the creation of the commission an Egbema indigene has not been appointed as the Chairman nor commissioner of the commission, these positions are supposedly rotational among the following Ijaw kingdoms in the commission according to the sharing formula and percentage produced from the kingdoms; Gbaramatu: 21% ,Ogulagha: 20%, Egbema: 19%, Ogbe Ijoh: 17%, Diebri: 11 %, Eduweni: 9%
Kou: 4%”.
” the appointments made representing the Ijaw kingdoms since inception of the commission as follows: First Chairman, Chief W.O Okrika from Gbaramatu kingdom. First Commissioner for Ijaw kingdoms, Francis Atemewei from Ogulagha kingdom. Second Commissioner for Ijaw kingdoms, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro from Gbaramatu kingdom. Third Commissioner for Ijaw kingdom, Chief Favour Izokumoh from Ogbe-Ijoh kingdom, while Egbema Kingdom has not produced both Chairman or Commissioner”

” No indigene of Egbema has ever been appointed to occupy a ministry in the state as Commissioner since the creation of Delta State. No indigene from Egbema has been given the chance to represent the local government in the state house of assembly neither been considered for the chairmanship of the Warri North Local Government Council.
In his words, this is strongly against the principle of equity and justice and does not reflect inclusivity in its entirety”.
He added ” we believe Governor Okowa will address the marginalization of the Egbema Ijaw people in his new administration and consider our people for appointment into the executive cabinet for the next four years.

” While it is the Governor’s prerogative to appoint whoever he deems qualified and fit to lead the commission, we want to state it clearly that, the Egbema people have some of the most qualified persons and therefore request His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to kindly consider Egbema indigenes in making his choice to steer the commission for the next four years”.
