Troops Eliminate 24 Terrorists In Five-Day Offensive Across Borno, Adamawa

No fewer than 24 Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents have been neutralised by troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in a series of coordinated ambushes and clearance operations conducted across Borno and parts of Adamawa between July 4 and 9.

FocalPoint Reports that this was confirmed by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command, Capt. Reuben Kovangiya, in a statement released on Wednesday in Maiduguri.

According to Kovangiya, the successful operations were conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters.

He stated, “These operations are part of sustained efforts to keep pressure on insurgent strongholds and restore normalcy to affected communities.”

The offensive began on July 4 when troops lying in ambush at Platari engaged insurgents moving on bicycles from Sambisa Forest toward the Timbuktu Triangle, neutralising three terrorists. A similar ambush near the Komala area led to the recovery of motorcycles, spare parts, pesticides, and food items.

Later that night, troops struck again in Kawuri, Konduga LGA, gunning down two terrorists transporting logistics materials, including salt, detergents, and condiments.

On July 5, troops intercepted insurgents attempting to infiltrate the Madarari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Konduga. One terrorist was killed, and several rounds of ammunition were recovered.

Further encounters that day led to the killing of three insurgents during a firefight at Leno Kura.

The night of July 6 saw troops laying an ambush at suspected crossing points between Ngoshe and Gava, Ngoshe and Ashigashiya, and Amuda and Gava. One insurgent was killed, while others fled.

On July 7, troops intercepted terrorist logistics couriers near Sabsawa village, neutralising two and seizing bicycles, torches, batteries, slippers, and other supplies.

In a major push on July 8, troops supported by air strikes and CJTF raided Bula Marwa, a known ISWAP and JAS enclave. One terrorist was killed, and key infrastructure was destroyed.

A concurrent operation in Pambula village, Madagali LGA of Adamawa, led to the killing of one insurgent and the recovery of four motorcycles and a dane gun.

Troops continued their sweep through Bula Marwa the same day, killing another terrorist and dismantling more structures.

On July 9, joint forces cleared terrorist camps at Tangalanga and Bula Marwa, killing three insurgents and recovering six AK-47 rifles, 47 magazines, and 90 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Further ambushes in Ngailda, Manjim, and Wulle villages, in collaboration with hybrid forces, resulted in the elimination of six more terrorists.

According to him, the success of the operations highlights the resilience and synergy between the troops, air components, and local support forces.

The spokesman added, “The neutralisation of 24 terrorists underscores the determination and concerted efforts of OPHK to place insurgents on the back foot and create a secure environment for socio-economic recovery in the North East.”
