Imo LP Distances Self From Obi’s Relationship With ADC

The Labour Party (LP) in Imo State has insisted it will not follow its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his new political base, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

State chairman of the party, Calistus Ihejiagba, made the declaration in an interview with the Daily Sun following Obi’s widely reported exit from the LP.

FocalPoint Reports that Ihejiagba said while the former Anambra State governor played a vital role in the party’s 2023 campaign momentum, the Labour Party is not dependent on a single individual to thrive.

He said, “Labour Party will continue to exist in Imo; we are going nowhere. We will work towards making the party stronger in Imo.

“Our party is still the masses’ party, and we’re here to stay.”

Obi’s decision to pitch his tent with the ADC has sparked speculation about a possible collapse or defection of LP structures in some states, particularly in the Southeast.

However, the Imo LP has moved to quell such rumours, declaring its total commitment to rebuilding and consolidating the party irrespective of the former presidential candidate’s new affiliation.

FocalPoint Reports understands that the coalition is working toward defeating President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
