Peter Obi Is A Very Easy Person’ – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Former Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Datti Baba-Ahmed, has clarified that Peter Obi was informed and raised no objection before his participation in the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held by the Julius Abure-led faction of the party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday night, Baba-Ahmed stated that he consulted with Obi and ensured he was kept informed before attending the controversial meeting.

FocalPoint Reports that Baba-Ahmed explained that despite the Labour Party’s internal crisis, he has maintained consistent communication with Obi and respects the former Anambra governor’s leadership.

“If His Excellency Peter Obi and I had been sworn in, there would have been things that would have fallen on me to do,” he said.

Highlighting Obi’s busy schedule, Baba-Ahmed added, “Not too long ago, his younger brother’s property was smashed. He has been busy. He went to Daura for Buhari’s burial. Also, one governor was on his case not to visit his state.

“I need to understand that Peter Obi’s cup is full. And maybe he is shy to tell me to go and do these things. He knows everything I do. I carry him along.”

Describing Obi’s leadership style, he said, “Peter Obi is a very easy person. He leaves you to use your judgement and initiative. He was fully in the picture.”

The Labour Party has been embroiled in an internal leadership dispute, with two main factions currently competing for control of the party’s structure. One faction is led by Julius Abure, while the other is backed by interim national chairman Nenadi Usman.

While Baba-Ahmed attended the NEC meeting convened by the Abure camp, many LP stakeholders argue that Abure’s tenure has expired.
