Save Deltan's from VIO Aggression, Extortion Intimidation of Road Users, Why VIO should Leave Delta Roads
BY Ezekiel Kagbala FPR
Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) officials are fast becoming a real problem and agents of vindictive fault-finding officers in Delta State.
Currently, they operate in commando-style to desperately victimize road users, Deltan's especially in Warri, Sapele, Eku, Abraka, Ughelli and other parts of the state have also suffered at the mercy of these legal extortioners.
Nonetheless, no need disputing the fact that the VIO must ensure only roadworthy vehicles are allowed on roads but the process of enforcing these laws remains defective infringes on the rights of individuals, no law authorises them to hold sticks and mount the roads.
Their major duties include inspecting and issuing certificates for vehicles' roadworthiness, Maintaining the sanity on Nigerian roads and highways &Training and testing drivers for driver's license application but they seem to do more of extorting and road mounting with sticks.
Road users have retained their grievances with these officer who are only out to find all sorts of fault to Book unsuspecting road users
Their motives now seemingly transcend to fault finding taxing them on every offence to the tune of hundreds of thousands.
These unschooled men in Black and White uniform are in no way helpful to road users
once you are stopped by the VIO there is nothing you can do to escape from their clutches if they (want to) have a case against you. No matter how roadworthy you think you are, they will always find something if they want.
It will be fraudulent if it becomes customary for VIO to book someone for many offences and negotiate to reduce the amount just to receive the money in cash in their office.
It is gross illegality, extortion diversionary for the VIO to continue receiving cash in their offices, no law authorises VIO to collect the sum of two hundred nairas as transport fare, no law authorises them to operate as a Bank of extortion, fraud and illegality. They should get out of the roads.
Let them perform their duties with due diligence on trucks, commercial vehicles, private cars and do the needful; otherwise, they should stay off Delta roads. Furthermore, our roads should be auto-friendly if the state government is concern with the construction of quality roads.
