The people of Egbema, Ijaw ethnic group in Warri North, Delta State have called on The Delta State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to consider one of them for appointment as commissioner when reconstituting his cabinet for his second term.

The convener of Egbema liberation movement, Group, Comrade Prince Binikuro, made the call on behalf of his people at a press conference in Warri Delta State. The group also congratulated Governor Okowa on his election for a second term in office.

Prince Binikuro noted that successive governments in the State have been marginalising Egbema Ijaw people, particularly in the distribution of political appointments.
Prince Binikuro said “The group decided to seek seek governor Okowa’s intervention because the people are confident that the governor will uphold justice fairness and equity.

“More importantly, we the Egbema’s are firmly glued to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, even in the recently concluded general election, the Egbema people massively supported and voted governor Okowa in politically difficult terrain as Egbema.

Prince Binikuro further added that the Egbema people have been marginalised politically for many years despite series of peaceful protest, though we believe that violence is not the right tool to attract attention but believe in constructive engagement.

“While it is the governor’s prerogative to appoint whoever he deems qualified as member of the state executive council, we want to state that the Egbema people have some of the most qualified persons and therefore request his Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to kindly consider them in making his choice of next cabinet members.”
