DELTA COMMUNITY YOUTHS TO PROTEST NPDC’s ALLEGED NEGLECT OF OWEIYEGBENE COMMUNITY

DELTA COMMUNITY YOUTHS TO PROTEST NPDC’s ALLEGED NEGLECT OF OWEIYEGBENE COMMUNITY

By Ezekiel Kagbala (FPR)

Warri South-West youths from Oweiyegbene community of Delta State has vowed to storm the premises of the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, over alleged neglect of their communities.

The community youth president, Comrade Mandela Bomini who spoke with FocalPoint Reports in Warri during a press briefing, lamented that the community have nothing to show for over 60 years of oil exploration in their area.

He noted that four preserved oil wells, not yet drilled are currently used by NPDC to secure a large portion of Oweiyegbene community land for their operations without giving the host community any entitlement. Mandela further asserted that for every oil well, there must be an entitlement the host community.

He however, accused  NPDC of denying Oweiyegbene community of their benefits after barricading the site where they have the reserved oil well, depriving those in the community access to the place.

Reacting to what he described as marginalisation by  NPDC,  Mandela said "The flow station in Batan community Warri South-West, is serviced with oil wells situated at different communities of which some of the  community are benefiting and some are neglected".

Our source also revealed that there is serious oil politics going on in Delta State as some community chairmen and leader bought themselves into the Delta State politics and influence memorandum of understanding of the companies meant to benefit those in their communities for self enrichment.
