1999-2023: Read How Gbagi Completes Delta History as Governorship Candidate, Recieves Royal Blessing

Delta State political history will record Olorogun Barr. Kenneth, the Aame of Ughievwen Kingdom as a governorship candidate for the first time since 1999.

This was disclosed on Saturday August 13th 2022, during a reception organised by Ughieven Traditional Council of Chiefs, Women, Youths and elders of the Kingdom for Gbagi.

They gathered in their numbers to celebrate the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Governorship candidate at the Palace of his HRM Matthew Egbi, Owahwa II, the traditional ruler of Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South local government area.

Gbagi, a Minister of State for Education received royal blessings as a governorship candidate who will make Ughievwen Kingdom proud.

Those who received royal blessings include; Hon. Justice Sybil Gbagi,  Ughelli South House of Assembly candidate, Prince Temienor Oghenekevwe, Chairman of SDP Delta State, Dr. Idawene Oke and hosts of others.

Speaking at the occasion, Gbagi stated that he was an aspirant in 1999 with Prof. Sam Oyovbaire and former Governor James Ibori. As God has it, James Ibori became the governor adding that, he ( Gbagi) has always been an aspirant, not a candidate.

Appreciating the warm reception accorded him, Gbagi said; "Today I am a candidate of a political party for the first time in the history of my life. Some of us may not understand the reasons for my going to the SDP.

"It was with SDP that Delta State experienced the first free and fair election where Felix Hebrew emerged as governor. The oldest existing party in Nigeria today is the SDP.

"After all consultations, it is important for me to come back home, his majesty here seated was part and parcel of the struggle in 1999".

The monarch on his part told members of his Council of Chiefs and the entire kingdom to work for the emergence of their illustrious son, Kenneth Gbagi.

The traditional ruler urged that after his prayers, people should go and work. He then prayed that the gubernatorial ambition of the former minister of State for education, would see the light of day.

“After my prayers, everybody should go and work. May it be well with you, this is the first time an Ughievwen son will be on the ballot, Whatever you do, may it be well with you.

“This is our own, what you told Ughievwen, we have heard you in clear terms. Whatever we say, you have asked us to spread the news about your ambition. When we pray, we work along with it”.
