The participating Communities and their various football team yesterday, Thursday converged at Benikurukuru, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State to get fixture for  the foremost grassroots football competition in the riverine region.

The local organizing committee for the second edition of the Sheriff Mulade Ijaw, Itsekiri Peace, Unity Cup 2019, led by the chairman,  Honourable Ken Nwamuocha, received players, coaches, captains and supporters with its technical and Welfare committee at Benikurukuru community for participatory screening and qualifier for inter-ethnic football competition.



The Chairman said "The tournament is planed to promote peace and unity as the end of the tournament will signal an achievement of peaceful coexistence between the two ethnic groups. We have gone inside and outside the state to make this tournament a success".



Comrade sheriff Mulade Commended and appreciated the audience for their preparation and zeal, noting that the concept behind the football match is to strengthen interethnic ties between Ijaws and Itsekiri's.

The tournament was arranged between group A and B for Ijaws to get their best team and players, group C and D for Itsekiri to come up with their best team, this Will enable Ijaw versus Itsekiri to meet at the grand finals.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention.
