 ....TO TACKLE CORRUPTION, INSECURITY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

A non governmental organization, Center for Peace and Environmental Justices, CEPEJ set to hold her 10th annual conference in Abuja, Nigeria.

The National coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Sheriff Mulade on Tuesday disclosed in Abuja that, CEPEJ partners from the Nigerian government, International agencies, representatives of the United Nation's Office Drugs and Crimes, UNODC, the National Orientation Agency, NOA and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, will join the NGO for fruitful deliberations to address key domestic challenges bedeviling the country.

FocalPoint Reports  can authoritatively reports that CEPEJ is collaborating with key agencies for the annual conference, to proffer solution to  insecurity and corruption bedeviling the black continent of Africa as  this year’s conference is focused on addressing  pertinent issues affecting Africa's development in modern times. 

 In a press statement made available to News men in Abuja, CEPEJ boss notes that corruption and insecurity are global challenges that requires global solution and  CEPEJ is  collaborating with relevant stakeholders in politics, government, civil society, as well as international organizations, to look at current issues, statistics and measures towards developing Africa. 

He said, "In line with our vision and mission of the NGO we funded this conference so as to reach out to participants and facilitators who will use their expertise to highlight focused areas  and ensure that the different perspectives of the topic are captured and documented".

"This will then be issued as a communiqué for use in policy reforms by all stakeholders and to serve as a benchmark for measuring growth and development. We need to be effective in asserting our values and in addressing the root causes of corruption and insecurity which include but are not limited to fear, mistrust, anxiety and anger". 

"Participants invited for the conference cut across students from secondary and tertiary institutions, Youth Corps members, the Nigerian military and paramilitary bodies, government and its agencies, as well as other CSOs and NGOs".

"Expected keynote speakers are the Honourable Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Malami Abubakar and his counterpart from the Ministry of Interior His Excellency, Rauf Aregbesola and the lead paper will be presented by team leads from UNODC, while day two is equally loaded with speakers.

"CEPEJ will also present awards to deserving individuals and bodies selected from within Africa by an independent committee comprising academics, researchers and professionals from the different geo-political zones of Nigeria. We do believe that the selected individuals represent the change we desire to see in our systems, therefore, honouring them will take others in the direction that leads to growth and development for all".

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention.
