Delta Economy in Bad Shape, CDHR Vice President Taiga, Tells Gov. Okowa 
The National Vice President, Committee for the Defense of Human  Right, Dr. Kehinde Taiga on Tuesday alleged that the Economy of Delta state is in bad shape, adding that Deltans who are not part of the political cabals are wallowing in penury.

The immediate Past State CDHR Chairman told  our reporter yesterday in Warri that the economy of Delta State runs in the hands of cabals working with the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, no one cares to give account of internally generated revenue and the economy that is currently running in the hands of Delta State government cabals.

He called on the governor to ensure proper resuscitation of the state economy with the aim of reducing the high rate of poverty experienced in the state.

The right activists called for immediate implementation of section 16 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to avoid violating the right of the citizens. 

He further laments that government at all levels  in the country has abandoned their legitimate responsibilities of serving the people.

Prince Taiga added that the role of government is to benefit the masses not few individuals and that every resources meant for the state must be used appropriately and effectively.

Generalising the economic situation He said, "Nigeria wealth are left in the hands of few which violate section 16 sub 2 (c) (of the constitution) that the  economic system  is not operated in such a manner as to permit the Concentration of wealth or the means of production and exchange in hands of few individuals or of a group and (d)  that suitable and adequate shelter, suitable and adequate food, reasonable national minimum Living.

"I am calling on the State and federal government to fully implement section 16 of the 1999 Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria, sovereignty belong to the people of Nigeria from whom government through this  Constitution derives all its powers and authority".

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
