POVERTY IN NIGERIA: CEPEJ URGES FG TO INTENSIFY EFFORTS AT ERADICATING SCOURGE
Center for Peace and Environmental Justice CEPEJ has expressed concern over the high level of poverty among many Nigerians. The Center has therefore called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps at curbing the pandemic poverty and hunger by reducing unemployment and ameliorating the prevailing economic downturn in the country.
The Niger Delta based Non-Governmental Organization advised the Federal Government to work with indigenous economists to create obligatory planning guidelines that can help to lower the high poverty level in the country.
The NGO which spoke through its National Coordinator, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, gave the charge while interacting with some Warri-based newsmen, emphasizing that the prevailing harsh economic situation in Nigeria and other parts of the world, requires the best professional approach to deal with.
The Center also advised that measures to eradicate poverty should be put in place and publicized through effective public awareness campaigns.
The NGO however appealed to Nigerians to be patient with government to enable it find the best ways out of the nation's economic challenges, imploring them to acquire skills or learn trades that will empower them economically.
The Center implored Nigerians to support the government at this critical time by shunning all forms of economic and financial frauds.
