Cooking Gas Price Hits ₦21,010 For 12.5kg Cylinder – NBS


The National Bureau Of Statistics (NBS) has reported a significant surge in the average retail price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, which rose to ₦21,010.56 in June 2025.

This marks a 1.46% month-on-month increase from ₦20,709.11 in May 2025 and a sharp 33.52% rise compared to ₦15,736.27 recorded in June 2024.

“The average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG increased by 1.46% on a month-on-month basis and by 33.52% year-on-year,” NBS said in its latest report.

According to the report, Delta State recorded the highest average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder at ₦23,108.44, followed by Cross River (₦22,982.89) and Rivers (₦22,971.27).

On the other hand, Yobe State had the lowest average price at ₦19,000, with Niger (₦19,242.48) and Jigawa (₦20,025.94) also among the states with cheaper rates.

By region, the South-South posted the highest average price at ₦22,179.08, followed by the South-East (₦21,623.86). The South-West recorded the lowest regional average at ₦20,402.42.

The NBS report further revealed that the average price for refilling a 5kg LPG cylinder increased to ₦8,323.95 in June, up 1.92% from ₦8,167.43 in May, and 19.49% higher than the ₦6,966.03 recorded in June 2024.

Delta also topped the chart for 5kg refills at ₦9,243.38, with Cross River (₦9,193.16) and Rivers (₦9,188.51) following closely. Oyo State had the lowest price at ₦7,100, trailed by Plateau (₦7,200) and Yobe (₦7,600).

Regionally, the South-South again led with an average of ₦8,871.63, followed by the South-East (₦8,649.55), while the South-West had the lowest at ₦7,960.42.

The report comes months after the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) shut down 19 illegal LPG and category D cooking gas outlets in Delta State, targeting small cylinders used for domestic cooking.
