Two seafarers has been reportedly killed as seapirates attacked and boarded a fishing trawler within Escravos Delta State

The fishing boat simply identified as MV. Ft Rose iii and owned by Atlantic shrimpers Limited was said to have been attacked on 30th of January 2021.

The two sailors unfortunately lost their lives in the attack at about 6a.m local time , while other crew members aboard the vessel sustained various degree of injuries.


It was also gathered that a total of twelve crew were aboard the ill-fated vessel before the attack.

Confirming the attack to our correspondent in Lagos on Friday, a top member of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association , name withheld told our correspondent that the attack occurred within  Escravos  ,Delta state .


He noted that the names of the name of the sailors are yet unknown but added that the late seafarers’ both hail from Delta state.

The source pointed out that the late sailors were not members of the union but expressed sadness over the death ,saying security presence at sea was not encouraging due to reported cases of attacks on trawlers within the nation’s territorial waters  in the last six months.


“There was a sea pirate attack on one of Atlantic shrimpers boat, Ft Rose 111 on the 30th of January at 06.00 hours.

“It happen around ESCRAVOS – ILESANMI. Two sailors unfortunately lost their lives in the attack,” he told our correspondent via a text message.
