*Polls: Each ad-hoc NYSC member to receive N30,500 – INEC ON FEBRUARY*
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that for every member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, who participates in tomorrow’s election as ad-hoc staff would be paid N30,500.
INEC boss, Prof Mahmood Yakubu Tight security at Lagos airport ahead of Buhari’s visit for campaign INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this yesterday in Abuja, while addressing stakeholders during the commission’s third briefing on the preparedness of INEC to conduct tomorrow’s elections.
INEC had shifted to tomorrow the presidential and parliamentary elections initially billed for 16th February, 2019. While the election was postponed by one week, corps members who were supposed to assist INEC in the election as ad-hoc staff were seen passing through unsavoury situations.
Among the tings members of NYSC complained about was the welfare and allowances for participating in the election. But INEC, while dispelling the allegation of poor entitlement for the Corps members said several allowances would be ensured to get to the corps members.
According to Professor Yakubu, “For deployment on election duty, they are entitled to transport, feeding and an honorarium of N9, 000 and N4, 000 making it N13, 000 each. For the presidential election, N17, 500 is expected to be paid separately to each member.
Since no training will be conducted for the second election, he said that each corps member will receive N13, 000, making a total of N30, 500. That is the Standard allowance for corps members.”
