*CALLS FOR RENOVATION AND REOPENING OF UVWIE MODERN MARKET IN UGBOLOKPOSO*

As Itsekiri's in Ugbolokposo Uvwie local government area, Delta State gathered at the ancestral home of Udefi descendants in Ugbolokposo for the Udefi day celebration, a member of the Udefi descent, Engr. Johnson Maleghemi disclosed that the throne of the highly revered Olu of Warri in Delta State Nigeria would have been manned by the Udefi descendants.

The udefi day celebration which was presided over by the traditional head of the Udefi descendants, the Udefi, Obaloye of Warri Kingdom, Chief Clement Maleghemi received prominent traditional Chiefs of Warri Kingdom amongst whom are. Chief Alexander Omaghomi, Chief Tony Onuwaje, chief Gabriel Awala, Chief Isaac Jemide, Chief Charles Ikomi, Chief Francis Omasey and host of community leaders, Women, youths and elders from over 14 communities pays homage to the traditional head of UDEFI descants.

During an interview with The UDEFI representative, Johnson Maleghemi, he disclosed said, "The late Prince UDEFI is the son of Esigie, Esigie Was the Olu of Warri many centuries ago with his ancestral palace at Ode-Itseki now Big Warri, Situated in Warri South Local government area of Delta State. After the death of the king Olu Esigie, his son who was prince Udefi suppose to ascend the throne of The Olu of Warri Kingdom but felt that he was too old to ascend the throne hence he told his nephew Olu Abejoyi to Ascend the throne and continued the linage and successor of the Olu of Warri throne till date".

The source also disclosed that, the UDEFI is the protector of the Olu of Warri spiritually and traditionally hence during any coronation  anniversary in Warri Kingdom,  Udefi  boat will be in the front of the boat ferrying the Olu of Warri to the Olu's ancestral home, Ode Itsekiri's or Big Warri.

During an exclusive interview with the UDEFI of Warri Kingdom, Chief Maleghemi appealed to the Delta State government and the Nigerian federal government to harness the viable  economic potentials inherent in the long abandoned Ultramodern market, Ugbolokposo.

He Chief Clement Maleghemi noted that the purpose of Udefi day was to raise consciousness towards putting needs of the people ahead of personal interest.

Maleghemi noted that over 1000 lockup storehouse, warehouses, market stores, Clinic and animal slaughter houses are waisting away in Ugbolokposo. He noted further that such international structure built as an ultramodern market is yet to get the needed attention from the government to fully maximize its job creation and revenue generation potentials.

In a statement made available to news men in Warri, Maleghemi said "Ugbolokposo people are ready to partner with the State and Federal government to fully harness and utilize empowerment potentials in the area to eradicate unemployment amongst youths"

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Chairman of the retirees, Christopher Effiong said many of their members have developed terminal illnesses and heart attacks as a result of the frustration associated with the scheme.
