Former presidential candidate and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has alleged that the Federal Government is working to prevent him from participating in the 2027 presidential election.
It was reported that Obi made the allegation while calling for a transparent and credible electoral process in the country.
Speaking in a video address to a group of Nigerians, Obi reflected on his political journey, noting that he had endured years of setbacks, including political isolation and prolonged legal disputes.
“I have been in this very difficult business where people abandoned you completely for one election. I spent three years in court and no one followed me there,” he said.
The former governor also recalled being removed from office and left without support at certain points in his career.
“I have been impeached, returned to my village where no one wanted to see me, and removed from office twice,” he added.
Obi stated that his past experiences have strengthened him, adding that the current political climate does not present anything new to him.
“So there is nothing I will not see again. All these things being said about me are not new,” he said.
‘FG Doesn’t Want Me To Contest’
The former presidential candidate alleged that there are ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to frustrate his ambition ahead of the 2027 polls.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria does not want me to contest in the 2027 presidential election. We are not asking for much. They already have the governors and ministers; we are only asking for a free and fair election,” Obi said.
Obi further suggested that those in power enjoy access to influential networks, which he believes gives them an advantage in the political space.
“They have all the contacts. They know the queen and the king, while we do not. They have everything,” he added.
Reiterating his stance, Obi stressed the need for a level playing field, insisting that the focus should be on ensuring credible elections rather than restricting participation.
He maintained that Nigerians deserve a process that guarantees fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all candidates.
