Ex-Minister Amaechi Officially Joins ADC In Rivers

A former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after completing his registration with the party in his hometown.

Focalpoint reports that Amaechi registered at Ward 8 in Ubima, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, on Friday morning.

The registration came amid tension in the community following the destruction of the ADC office in Ubima by unknown persons.

Residents reportedly woke up in the early hours of Friday to discover that a section of the party office had been set ablaze, causing panic in the neighbourhood.

As of the time Amaechi carried out his registration, no arrests had been made in connection with the arson attack.

Addressing supporters who gathered to welcome him into the party, the former governor appealed for calm and warned against any act of violence or retaliation.

“Don’t be violent because violence may lead to the death of somebody,  don’t be violent. At the same time, they can’t stop us from meeting in our community,” Amaechi told the crowd.

Despite the tense situation, Amaechi commended security personnel deployed to the area, particularly the state Commissioner of Police and officials of the Department of State Services.

According to him, their conduct during the incident reflected professionalism.

“We thank the commissioner of police and the director of DSS; they showed a lot of professionalism. In fact, I wasn’t expecting that from them; I thought they would be behind the criminals,” he said.

Amaechi further urged security agencies to swiftly identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack on the party office.

He warned that attempts to intimidate party members through violence would not stop political activities in the community.
