Suspected gunmen abduct six Ondo health workers in Akure

Suspected gunmen abducted six health workers from a health centre in Okeijebu, Akure, Ondo State, in the early hours of Saturday, plunging the community into panic. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, arriving in a bus around 2:00 a.m., forcefully entered the facility, overpowered staff, and rounded up health workers, including interns on night duty. Before anyone could react, they gathered all the staff on duty and took six of them away,” the witness recounted. Insecurity: US Congressman Riley Moore renews calls for decentralised police force

United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has reiterated his call for decentralisation of Nigeria’s police force to allow state governments to take more responsibility for local security. He made the call in a post on X, yesterday, urging the Federal Government to step up action to protect its citizens, particularly those from the Middle Belt, who have been at the center of Islamic extremists killing. Congressman Moore had taken a proactive role in addressing security issues in Nigeria, focusing heavily on the persecution of Christians and the rise of extremism, largely aligning with the policy agenda of President Donald Trump. As of early 2026, he led investigations, introduced legislation, and demanded direct accountability from the Nigerian government. As part of his efforts to address insecurity, he led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Nigeria to investigate violence affecting Christian communities, meeting with victims, religious leaders, and high-level Nigerian government o...

Court Throws Out ₦54 Billion Oil Spill Suit In Uyo

The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo has dismissed a ₦54 billion representative lawsuit filed over a 2014 oil spill, ruling that the case was filed outside the legal time limit. The suit was brought by representatives of Barracks, Nditia and Okposo 2 communities against Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, now known as SEPNU. Claimants argued that the environmental damage from the spill amounted to a continuing injury and should therefore escape the statute of limitations. The court disagreed and struck out the case, holding that the spill was a single completed act whose legal timeline began in 2014. At the centre of the decision was an argument by Mobil’s counsel, Ms Abasiemediong Etuk, who urged the court to distinguish between a continuing injury and the continuing effect of an injury. She maintained that a continuing injury requires repeated wrongdoing, which was not present in this case. “While the effects of the spill might persist, the cause of action remains fixed to the date t...

Dangote Refinery Speaks On New Petrol Price

The management of  Dangote Refinery  has attributed the latest petrol prices across Nigeria to global market pressures and challenges in crude oil supply. Despite the commencement of domestic refining, the refinery said expectations that local refining would significantly ease pump prices have been dampened by external factors, including geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, the Managing Director of the refinery,  David Bird , said the facility operates fully within global market dynamics without any subsidy support. “On fuel pricing, the refinery is fully exposed to global market forces and operates without subsidies, making it vulnerable to fluctuations driven by geopolitical tensions,”  he said. Bird added that multiple cost components continue to exert pressure on pricing. “We try and maintain some stability within a commercially acceptable range, but all our cost inputs—from crude to freight and insurance, ar...

The 2027 AFCON preliminary qualifiers first-leg tie will be played at the Stade d’Honneur, a neutral venue chosen because Eritrea do not have a stadium that meets international standards. The return leg is set for March 31, with the aggregate winner progressing to the group stage of the 2027 qualifiers. Nicknamed the Red Sea Camels, Eritrea have been missing from the continent’s flagship tournament since a 2008 qualifier against Eswatini, then known as Swaziland. He described the reports about Alli’s adoption as untrue and misleading. He also dismissed claims that the decision was taken during a meeting at the Lagos residence of Bola Tinubu. According to him, the gathering being referenced was only a Sallah visit to the President and not a political meeting to pick a candidate. Awogboro explained that Adelabu did not attend the visit because he was away for the Lesser Hajj. Strait of Hormuz is about more than just oil. It feeds 100 million people

According to CNN news Report, Oil and liquefied natural gas tankers moving through the Strait of Hormuz carry around 20% of the world’s supply. But for countries on the Persian Gulf, the waterway is more than just an energy route, it’s a lifeline for more than 100 million people. Now, as the United States and Israel’s war with Iran chokes this vital stretch of water, it’s also straining food supply into the region. Thriving in this harsh climate takes effort. With summer temperatures topping 50 degrees Celsius (122 Fahrenheit) and little cultivatable land, much of the Gulf Arab states’ drinking water comes from the sea via desalination plants. Most of their food, however, must come from abroad. Saudi Arabia imports more than 80% of its food, the United Arab Emirates around 90%, and Qatar about 98%. In Iraq, too, the bulk of food imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the country’s access to two major rivers. In total, the majority of the food shipments to the re...

Global economy under ‘major threat’ from Strait of Hormuz crisis – IEA chief

The global economy is under “major threat” from the energy crisis caused by the Middle East war and “no country will be immune” to its effects, International Energy Agency chief Fatih Birol said Monday. So there is a need for global efforts.” US President Donald Trump and Tehran have issued tit-for-tat threats as the war entered its fourth week, with the US president demanding the Islamic republic reopen the blocked Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20 percent of the world’s oil and...

In Gwange Sabon Layi, a quiet neighbourhood in Maiduguri, Ba Musa sits in a house that no longer sounds like itself. Against the wall, four pairs of new shoes are still lined up. Black. Brown. Two slightly oversized, bought so the boys could grow into them. No one has touched them since Monday night. They belonged to his sons. Days earlier, Ba Musa had been preparing for Eid. New clothes. New shoes. A small, certain joy. On March 16, after breaking their Ramadan fast, the boys stepped out together. A quick errand. Eyeglasses for Sallah. They never came back. Three explosions; at Monday Market, the Post Office area, and the gate of the University o...

The warning follows fresh strikes on critical oil and gas installations, which have heightened fears of a prolonged war capable of disrupting global energy supplies. Focalpoint reports that  Crude oil prices rose  by about five per cent after the latest round of attacks, as investors reacted to the growing risk of supply disruptions. The spike comes amid escalating hostilities in the region, with particular concern over threats to the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route responsible for transporting roughly one-fifth of the world’s crude. Tanker movement through the strait has slowed significantly due to fears of Iranian attacks, pushing energ...
