NASS North East Caucus Join Forces Against Insurgents



The North East Caucus of the National Assembly comprising Senators and Members of the House of Representatives has vowed to support and cooperate with the six governors in the region, religious and traditional rulers to bring an end to the insecurity ravaging the zone.

The decision came at a meeting attended by almost all the members including the President of the Senate, Sen. Ahmed Lawan.

A statement signed by Ismail Dabo Haruna said the caucus re-elected Sen Mohammed Danjuma Goje (Gombe) and Rt. Hon. Mohammed Tahir Monguno (Borno) as the chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively.

Sen Halliru Dauda Jika (Bauchi) was elected secretary, Sen Aishatu Dahiru Ahmad Binani (Adamawa) Treasurer, David Abel Fuoh (Taraba) Publicity Secretary, while Hon. Tijjani Zanna Zakariya (Yobe) was elected the financial secretary of the caucus.

The caucus also expressed special congratulations to Sen. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan for his election as the President of the Senate and chairman of the National Assembly.

The caucus reaffirmed its sincere appreciation to his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari for the creation of the North East Development Commission and resolved to send a letter of commendation to him and to the Board and Management of the North East Development Commission for a successful take off.

The caucus also thanked the Federal Government for its determination to construct the Mambila Power Project calling for the process to be speeded up in order to achieve the desired economic, political and social benefits.

The caucus expressed its disappointment with the Federal Ministry of Aviation for leaving out the entire zone among the Airports to be opened on June 21st 2020 calling for the reopening of atleast one from the region.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention.
