Delta Community Celebrates as LGA Boss Perez Omoun Embarks on Agric Revolution in Patani

People of Patani Community, Patani Local government area, Delta State, yesterday celebrate as their Local Government Chairman, Hon. Perez Omoun, presents starter Packs and grants to beneficiaries of Patani Agricultural Revolution Programme.


The programme was organised by the Chairman to Empower Patani People With perquisite agro skill to rear snail and grass cutters for sustenance and commercial purpose.

Speaking with news men at the council Secretariat, during the occasion of the flagging off ceremony of Patani agricultural revolution and presentation of starter packs and grants, the council boss noted said, "This programme is aimed at making Patani an agricultural economic Hub for snail Business and create job opportunities. Patani people are involved in Agribusiness with crude implements even with the availability of modern technology since the creation of the local government in 1999". 



However, The Commissioner for Agricultural, Hon Julius Egbedi commended the chairman for the initiative and congratulate the beneficiaries, he urged them to put their starter packs to good us and create jobs for themselves with the training they have acquired.

 The Member Representing Patani Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly,  Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe disclosed that Patani local government is the first to experience such agricultural revolution within the local government setting, adding that the programme will be sustained.

In a related development, The  Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, Prof. Job Akpodiete,  who spoke with Newsmen disclosed that any nation without agricultural background will be prone to malnutrition, hence a foundation for industrialisation is agriculture. He said, "Patani environment is favourable  for snail farming and there are pharmaceutical value attached to snails".

The beneficiaries in the first batch who could not hold their excitement went home with over 50 Snail rearing pen-box stocked over with 100 snail each.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
