Bayelsa Primaries: Tension as thugs throw dynamites at PDP chieftain's houses


There was tension in Bayelsa State on Saturday following dynamite explosions at the residences of two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains in Yenagoa and Brass local government areas.

It was gathered that thugs suspected to be working for one of the aspirants outside the Governor Seriake Dickson’s restoration caucus of the PDP threw the explosives to create panic ahead of the party’s primary scheduled for September 3.

PDP stalwarts, whose houses were attacked by the thugs, were a member representing Constituency 1 in the state House of Assembly, Obuku Oforji and the Executive Chairman of Brass, Victor Isaiah.

Both houses were reportedly attacked on Saturday evening by thugs, who launched the explosives and fled the areas.

There has been internal wrangling in PDP between restoration caucus and some non-caucus members especially after the ward and national congresses to elect delegates for the governorship primary of the party.

While the Dickson’s caucus boasted of sweeping the congresses, some aspirants protested the outcome of the delegate elections.

It was learnt that the two explosions were reported to the Commissioner of Police and the State Director of the Department of State Service (DSS) in Yenagoa.

Confirming the incident, Isaiah described it as unfortunate adding that the matter was promptly reported to the police and the DSS.

He added that the State Director of the DSS and the CP visited his house to confirm what actually happened.

Isaiah added that his younger brother, who witnessed the incident said that he saw and overheard three boys within their premises making suspicious calls to determine wether people were in the house.

He said a few minutes after the call, the explosion went off and caused panic within the neighborhood.

Security operatives were said to have commenced investigations to determine the identities of persons, who carried out the operation.

The operatives, were said to be directing their searchlight among supporters of the aspirants, who openly protested against the party congresses.

Security agents were said to be worried over some intelligence that few aspirants were planning to engage thugs to disrupt the forthcoming primaries.

Woman Burned to Death, Accused of Kidnapping 7yrs Old Boy in Delta
