Fresh Abduction In Kaduna As Bandits Kidnap Photojournalist

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a photojournalist, Umar Iyale, from Danhonu II community in Kaduna State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night at about 9 pm, when the assailants stormed the journalist’s residence in Chikun Local Government Area and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

It was gathered that Iyale, who is well known in the area for his photography work, is currently nursing an undisclosed ailment, a development that has heightened concern over his safety.

Residents said the attackers struck swiftly, leaving little time for neighbours to intervene before escaping with their victim.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the command had launched an operation to rescue the abducted journalist and apprehend those behind the crime.

According to him, security operatives are already combing the surrounding areas as part of efforts to track down the kidnappers.

DSP Hassan appealed to residents of Danhonu and Millennium City to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid the rescue mission.

He stressed that such cooperation would go a long way in ensuring the victim’s safe return and in flushing out criminal elements from the area.

The abduction comes nearly two years after Kaduna State recorded relative peace and improved security, largely attributed to the state government’s collaborative and strategic engagement with security agencies across several communities.

Residents have expressed worry that the latest incident could signal a resurgence of criminal activities if urgent steps are not taken to curb the threat.
