Akpodubakaye Reveals Who Should Lead Council in Delta



The Vice Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, High Chief Arthur Akpodubakaye on Monday, January 29th, 2024, declared that those who have been trained through grassroots leadership and council administration are best fit to take over leadership of the Local Government Councils in the State. 

Speaking on Warri South-West LG Choice 2024 ahead of the polls, 
during a chat with newsmen in Warri, Akpodubakaye recommends that those who want to be trained should come in as "Councillors".

High Chief Akpodubakaye noted that the Local Government Council is a place where future leaders are trained. 

According to him, "We all have a right to participate but I am making an experienced observation for our people who seeks to advance political carrier from the grassroot".

He noted that he is trained to serve his people and that he had served in various capacities as a Ward chairman, Councillor, former Secretary of the Council, Ex-official of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, and now as vice chairman. 

High Chief Akpodubakaye said the Local government councils had trained capable hands since its creation.

He again, congratulated the Deta State Governor, RT. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his victory at the Supreme Court. 

He commended the judiciary for delivering landmark judgments including that of Delta State Government. 

High Chief Akpodubakaye said criticism is allowed in every sector of life but critics must be constructive in their criticisms. 

"Let me congratulate our governor. We give thanks to God Almighty. Whatever has happened is a learning process for the governor because God's hand is upon him and no one can arm-twist Him. God gives power. Not humans."

He noted that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had performed creditably well with his MORE Agenda for the State.

He said despite the supreme court case which he won, he contracted the services of Julius Berger for the construction of flyovers and bridges in the State.

High Chief Akpodubakaye said, that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori means well for the people of Delta State as he had approved the payment of bursary for students of Delta State origin which according to him will commence by February this year. 

He added that he had not left the youths behind in the scheme of things pointing out that he appointed a good number of youths into his cabinet as Commissioners.

High Chief Akpodubakaye was quick to enjoin the youthful appointees to work for the position given to them by the governor in line with his MORE Agenda. 

He said in the areas of security the governor had also done well as the citizens now enjoy maximum peace across the State. 

High Chief Akpodubakaye further added that the governor approved 104 billion to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy on civil servants across the State, approved five billion Naira for payment of promotion arrears of civil servants in addition to another forty billion naira as salary for teachers in primary and secondary schools.

He added that the governor had also commenced the construction of Uti and Old Abraka-Umutu road rehabilitation amongst others. 

High Chief Akpodubakaye said Deltans should thank Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the good works he is doing.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship. The aggrieved retired police officers also wrote a Save Our Soul (SOS) letter to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, calling for an urgent intervention. Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Chairman of the retirees, Christopher Effiong said many of their members have developed terminal illnesses and heart attacks as a result of the frustration associated with the scheme. In a letter dated May 21 and addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the retirees said many of their colleagues have lost their lives due to the prevai
