Gbagi Extols Media Mogul, Nduka Obaigbena, at 64

The largest employer of labour in Delta State and former Minister of State for Education, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM, OON, has joined the media industry, particularly THISDAY newspapers, Arise magazine, and Arise Television family to celebrate their Chairman, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, CON, on the occasion of his 64th birthday anniversary.

Gbagi, who is the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the March 18th 2023 election in the State, described Obaigbena as an outstanding media entrepreneur. 

A press statement signed by Gbagi's Chief Press Secretary Kenneth Orusi, on Saturday, July 15th 2023, the owner of Gbagi Conglomerate, hailed the THISDAY publisher for his visionary and adventurous leadership style of establishing trademark communication outfits that have remained exceptional in informing Nigerians about the world around them, and educating the world about Nigeria.

The former Chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, also saluted Obaigbena’s courage in assembling a team of brilliant journalists and administrators, who started THISDAY newspaper, and the groundbreaking strides they have made.

The statement added that as a journalist, columnist, publisher, and President of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Gbagi believed that Obaigbena’s patriotism was exemplary, especially in view of the maturity and the balance NPAN had brought to traditional media at a time the social variant ran riot round the world.

He commended Obaigbena, for emerging the Media Giant for the 2021 edition of Africa Highest Honour Award.

Describing Obaigbena, the Duke of Owa Kingdom, as an “ideas’ man,” Gbagi felicitated with his family, friends, associates and professional colleagues, wishing him longer life, good health and prosperity.

“I join others to celebrate your commitment to a free society and holding government accountable to the people, with your platforms.

"You have continued to blaze the trail in the profession despite several challenges, and your innovations have come to define some of the fine points of journalism today. We wish you many more years.

Retired police officers protest over unpaid pensions

Some retired police officers under the contributory pension scheme on Tuesday, May 21, protested at the National Assembly over alleged several months of unpaid pensions with a call on President Bola Tinubu to remove them from the scheme. The protesters decried the extreme challenges they endure, saying that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) has failed to pay their entitlements for several months causing them and their families untold hardship.
