Tragic sunday in Nigeria: 20 killed, 11 injured in Kwara road crash Twenty persons reportedly lost their lives in a road accident at Olokonla, along Bode-Saadu-Jebba Expressway in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State on Saturday. Seventeen of the victims were burnt to death while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injury. The Kwara State Fire Service and the state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps blamed the crash on speeding and wrongful overtaking. Sheriff Mulade Mourns with Governor Okowa over Death of his Father  The National Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, an NGO, Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade has commiserated with the family of the Delta State Governor, Dr. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa over the death of his father Pa Sir Arthur Okowa.  Chief Mulade, who is the Ibe-sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, prayed God to grant the Governor and his family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. While quoting John chapter 5 verses 28 and 29, the CEPEJ CEO enjoined Dr. Okowa to take solace in the fact that his father lived an exemplary and godly life and therefore has the hope of resurrecting into eternal life. The court, in a judgment that was delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, held that the Plaintiffs, failed to by way of credible evidence, discharge the burden of proof placed on them by the law. FG releases N11.8bn pension for MDA retirees, 10 months arrears still outstanding The Federal Government, yesterday, released the sum of N11.82 billion for payment of accrued rights for retirees of treasury funded Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs) under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). Accrued rights represent benefits for employees of Treasury Funded MDAs who worked up to June 2004, before the Pension Reform Act that gave birth to the CPS was introduced. The amount will cover only two months arrears of January and February 2020. This is because the last payment for accrued rights was for December 2019. In essence, a backlog of ten months arrears is still outstanding. The new tarrif hike regime is to be paid by customers of the 11 electricity Distribution Companies, DISCOs. This is coming just two months after the Commission forced implementation of much opposed hike on Nigerians in November 2020. In a revised Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) signed by the new Chairman of NERC, Engr. Sanusi Garba, on December 30, 2020, the new tariff increase took effect on January 1, 2021, and supersedes the previous Order NERC/2028/2020.
