By Naija News

The Edo State Police command has reportedly made an arrest of a middle-aged man who has been parading himself as an aide to the former state governor, now APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

According to Police Commissioner in Edo State, Jimeta Lawan who also was impersonated, one Monday Clement Shola, 30, has been nabbed after deceiving some well doing persons in the state by impersonation to enrich his account from money they send to him.

Reacting to the arrest of the culprit, Jimeta noted that Shola had deceived his victims with claims that he is a former aide to Adams Oshiomhole while he was still the Edo state Governor.

Confessing to the crime, Shola reveals that when reach out to his victims on phone, he also do introduce himself as Edo Commissioner of Police, and also act as another person by telling them to give attention the same (which is still himself).

“Eventually the person called and invited me to his office. I explained to the person how I was arrested and stuff like that. I met with the person one on one. He asked me to drop my account number and I will hear from him,” he said.

“Four days later. the account was credited with N2.5m. 40 minutes later I saw another alert of N10m making it N12.5m. I didn’t know the money was meant for two separate accounts but mistakenly paid all into my account. He called me to asked if I had seen the money. He also called the other line I used to first call him.”

“Two days later I went to the bank and was told the account was blocked. They told me money was mistakenly credited to the account. I had to return the N10m.”

Naija News understands also that Shola confessed to buying a Toyota Camry at N2.5m from part of the money sent to him from the last operation. He added that he lied to the bank that he was sent by Adams Oshiomhole when he was pressured to speak during the transaction.

This was coming a few weeks after Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, reveals that it thwarted a robbery by some armed gang.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Jimeta Lawan has said that the command is still carrying out further investigation into the matter, as they have also received quite a number of complaints from different victims Shola defrauded.
