BREAKING: Supreme Court Strikes Out PDP Govs’ Suit Against Rivers Emergency Rule

The Supreme Court on Monday struck out the suit filed by Adamawa and 10 other People's Democratic Party led states challenging the propriety of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers State.

It was reported that Tinubu had during the emergency rule suspended elected state’s officials for six months.

In a split decision of six-to-one, the Supreme held that the plaintiffs (the 11 PDP states) failed to establish any cause of action capable of activating the original jurisdiction of the apex court.

Justice Mohammed Idris held, in the lead majority judgment, that the plaintiffs failed to show that there existed any actionable dispute between them and the federation to require the court to exercise its original jurisdiction.

Supreme Court upheld the power of the President to declare a state of emergency in any state to prevent a breakdown of law and order or degeneration into a state of chaos or anarchy.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has suspended its two-week warning strike it declared last week across all public universities in the country. The union announced the suspension on Wednesday at a press conference held at its headquarters in Abuja.
