Ogbagah, Others Inaugurated as New NUJ Ughelli Correspondents Chapel Executive

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, inaugurated the newly elected executive on Thursday for the next three years, charging them to uphold the ethics of the profession. Those inaugurated were Comrade Matthias Ogbagah, Chairman; Comrade Moses Omovevah, Vice Chairman; and Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala, Assistant Secretary.  Meanwhile, Comrade Monica Ogbaudu and Comrade Mamuzo Efidhere will be sworn in at the next Congress. A former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, was on Friday ordered to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja after he was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦2.2 billion fraud. ​Justice Mariam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court issued the remand order and adjourned the case until Monday, December 15, to hear the former Anambra Governor’s bail application. ​Ngige, the sole defendant in the eight-count charge marked: FCT/HC/CR/726/2025, arrived at the court premises at about 8:10 am, escorted by EFCC officials. Breaking: Dangote Crashes Petrol Price In Nigeria

Dangote Refinery has effected a massive reduction in the price of petrol ahead of the yuletide season. According to checks on Friday on Petroleumpriceng, Dangote Refinery's ex-depot price dropped to ₦699 per litre, down from ₦828 per litre. This represents a ₦129, or 15.58 per cent, reduction in petrol prices. It was made to understand that the latest adjustment represents the 20th petrol price review this year. BREAKING: Supreme Court Overrides Tinubu’s Pardon, Affirms Maryam Sanda Death Sentence

The Supreme Court on Friday delivered a landmark judgment, overriding the pardon granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Maryam Sanda, and affirmed the death sentence by hanging for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, in 2017. It was recalled that President Tinubu had previously reduced Sanda’s death sentence to 12 years’ imprisonment on “compassionate grounds” in October 2025. However, in a four-to-one split decision, the Apex Court dismissed the appeal filed by Sanda, ruling that the prosecution had proved the case of culpable homicide beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice Moore Adumein, who delivered the lead judgment, held that the Court of Appeal, Abuja, was correct in upholding the initial death sentence handed down by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in 2020. The House of Representatives on Tuesday accused commercial banks of perpetrating illegality by deducting inexplicable monies from customers without remittances. The House Ad-hoc Committee Chairman, investigating the deduction of taxes from civil and public servants’ earnings and bank charges on customers’ accounts, Rep. Kelechi Nwogu, said this during an investigative panel in Abuja. The Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, said unregistered point of sale, PoS, operators will be shut down from January 1, 2026. Also, financial technology, Fintechs, firms enabling illegal activities are on the Commission’s watchlist. CAC made the announcement in a statement on Saturday. It described the surge in unregistered POS terminals as a “reckless practice”. According to CAC, the reckless practice violates the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, of 2020 and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, agent banking regulations. The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspected financiers of banditry and several others involved in motorcycle theft and criminal conspiracy in separate operations, recovering rustled cattle and stolen motorcycles. CBN Revises Cash Withdrawal Rules

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced on Tuesday that it will revise its cash withdrawal rules, effective January 2026. It was reported that the new rule issued by the apex bank ends a previous special authorisation that permitted individuals to withdraw ₦5 million and corporates to withdraw ₦10 million monthly. According to CBN, the previous cash policies were introduced over the years in response to evolving circumstances; however, with time, the need has arisen to streamline these provisions to reflect present-day realities.
