Nigeria, US to strengthen collaboration on public safety

The Nigeria Police Force and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Service (INL) of the US have agreed to strengthen collaboration to enhance public safety.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the agreement was reached at a meeting between the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, and the Assistant Secretary of the INL of the US, Mr Todd Robinson.

He said the meeting was part of the professional working visit of the I-G to the US for the 130th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference.

Adejobi said the meeting had addressed a range of critical issues, collaborative initiatives, and mutual support aimed at enhancing law enforcement and public safety in Nigeria.

According to him, during the discussions, the I-G highlighted several key areas of focus and collaboration, including the Special Intervention Squad’s role in addressing critical security challenges in Nigeria.

“The meeting also focused on the need to strengthen efforts relating to the Sex Offenders Registry Database, an essential tool in safeguarding communities from sexual offenders and public safety.

“Both parties discussed ways to enhance community safety through effective management and utilization of this registry,” he said.

He said Egbetokun and the INL Secretary had agreed to consider programme, aimed at “training the trainers” to enhance the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force through the development of skilled and knowledgeable trainers.

Adejobi said agreement was also reached on digitalisation and cloud-based data integration for the Nigeria Police Force.

Olu Of Warri Defends Tradition, Speaks on Christianity  The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ã’gíamẹ̀ Atúwàtse III, has dispelled the insinuation that there is a conflict between the traditional thrones and Christendom. The monarch, who stated this when he received the Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, in his Palace in Warri Kingdom, Delta State, said that the two institutions were not necessarily antithetical. He also debunked the assumption that traditional institutions were synonymous with fetishism and the worship of creations made by human beings and reasoning. The Olu, who said he was elated by the Soun’s visit, said the new Ogbomoso monarch’s choice of Warri kingdom as his first place of visit was divinely directed, just as his choice for the throne was divinely ordained.
