A prominent Niger Delta-based human rights activists, Comrade Steve Luke has called on the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) and the state government to conduct free, fair and credible 2021 Local Government Chairmanship Election.

The activist made the call at Asaba on Sunday in a message to the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Mike Ogbodu, as the election was scheduled to hold March 6, 2021.

He urged the Delta State Government to prepare and conduct free, fair local government election, allowing the people to vote for a candidate of their choice even at the party level.

Steven, however, warned against imposing chairmanship candidate at party levels, insisting that free, fair and credible local government primaries within the parties should be conducted for Democracy to be meaningful at the  grassroots,

Steven suggests that pre-election activities should be considered as an avenue for a party to look inward and present elected candidate as primaries have been scheduled hold from December 7 to 31.

He further observed that if there are transparent primaries, those contesting will have something to point to that make them deserve the vote of members in their parties.

He further asserted that who should lead should also be a product of democracy, elected by the people not imposed.
