Murder of Market Chairman: “No land dispute between Ovwian and Owhase Communities”
The gruesome murder of the Udu Habour market Chairman in Udu Council Area of Delta Comrade Freedom Odiete has nothing to do with alleged land dispute between Ovwian and Owhase Communities as being peddled on some social and mainstream media across the state.
Investigations reveal that the supposed land dispute between the sisters’ communities is between the Ogwuoro Quarter in Ovwian with the Owhase Community.
It is pertinent to state even this said land matter has been judicially resolved by the Appeal Court sitting in Asaba in a unanimous judgment delivered by Hon. Justice M.A. Danjuma, JCA in Appeal NO. CA/AS/299/2019 delivered in favour of Owhase community on 2nd September, 2019 at Asaba.
It is also germane to state that neither the Chairmanship of the Habour market nor the said land is an issue between the Ovwian and Owhase communities but just only the Ogwuoro Quarter of Ovwian community.
Most importantly, the Owhase community has fully taken possession of the said land before the brutal and unfortunate murder of Comrade Freedom Odiete popularly known as “Opisto”.
It is against this background that the Owhase people are appealing to the discerning public to disregard all contrary stories currently trending on social and mainstream media.
